Kenny’s Story

I once had a dog named Kenny, a Schnauzer who brought immense joy and warmth into my life. Tragically, Kenny passed away when he was just two months old, after accidentally swallowing a plastic stick. The grief I felt was overwhelming, but I wanted to find a way to keep his memory alive. That’s when I designed this lamp, to capture and cherish the light Kenny brought into my life.

Kenny had distinct physical features that made him unique: his black and white fur, his characteristic white beard, and his sturdy build. I began by carefully analyzing these features, wanting to incorporate them into the lamp’s design.

Sketch Refining

I chose to depict Kenny in a squatting position for the final design, a gesture that evokes warmth and tranquility. The image of Kenny sitting quietly beside me while I work at my desk creates a comforting atmosphere, as if he’s still there, faithfully accompanying me.

Prototyping

During the prototyping phase, I focused on analyzing the structure, particularly how to join the ‘head’ and ‘vertebrae’ in a way that was both sturdy and aesthetically pleasing. After experimenting with various methods and testing multiple prototypes, I selected the strongest joint structure with the most adhesive surfaces, ensuring the lamp would be both durable and a fitting tribute to Kenny.

2019 - 3D Printing Version

This 3D printing version only has three parts, and each curve has been adapted for 3d printing. And the lampshade part is also made of white translucent PLA material for illumination consideration.
